When The Washington Post relaunched its iconic Style section, I was challenged to find a visual voice that could introduce a new audience to the cultural commentary and sharp perspective the section is known for.
Working closely with my Creative Director, I drove the creative from the ground up. Including researching and sourcing the right illustrator for the project, making the case for Max-o-matic, and art directing the visuals from concept-stage to a set of large-scale murals in Brooklyn produced with Colossal Media.
A part of Max-o-matic’s craft that I admired was his attention to detail. To capitalize on this strength, we added a halftone texture to bring more depth, and nod to the print heritage of the Style section. The detail was so subtle it was nearly invisible at close range, but came alive at mural scale.
